Travel to romania would be an experience if certain things are kept in mind while leaving for Romania travel. Romania tourism has grown with time and now cheap travel to Romania is a hot destination. While touring the country some of the following list of information would be of great help.

  • A 5 to 10 per cent service tip is customary in restaurants. Porters, chambermaids and taxi drivers expect tips.
  • Military installations should not be photographed. Some tourist attractions require visitors to pay a fee of approximately Lei2000 for taking photographs.
  • Handshaking is the most common form of greeting, but it is customary for men to kiss a woman’s hand when being introduced. Visitors should follow normal European courtesies on social occasions.
  • Dress tends to be rather conservative but casual wear is suitable. Beachwear should not be worn away from the beach or poolside.
  • Smoking is prohibited on public transport, in cinemas and theaters. Many Romanians are smokers and gifts of Western cigarettes are greatly appreciated.
  • Bucharest provides one of the highest numbers of casinos in Europe. There are now approximately ten major casinos, offering varied standards of quality.
  • The national currency is the leu (plural lei). Leu (plural Lei) = 100 bani. Notes are in denominations of Lei1,000,000, 500,000, 10,000,5000 and 1000. Coins are in denominations of Lei5000, 1000, 500 and 100.  Foreign currency can only be exchanged at banks and authorized exchange offices. As rates can vary from one place to another it is wise to shop around things in lei.
  • Shopping hours are Mon-Sat 0600-2100 for small local shops, while larger stores and department stores open earlier and close later. Some shops open Sun 0600-1200, although these vary according to the season.
  • Banking hours: Mon-Fri 0900-1200 (business matters); Mon-Fri 0900-1200 and 1300-1500 (currency exchange).
The language spoken is Romanian - a Latin language mixed with Slavic words - similar to Italian or a little to Spanish.
